For an update from Catholic Charities USA on adopting Haitian orphans
International Adoptions
The International Adoption Program of Catholic Social Services (CSS) provides adoption pre-placement counseling, home study services, and post-placement services for Alaskan families adopting from outside of the United States.
We also provide case management services including acting as the liaison between the placing adoption agency and the adopting family. We have cooperating agreements with many placing adoption agencies (usually operating outside of Alaska) throughout the United States who work directly with the foreign country.
In addition, CSS assists adopting families in accessing local adoption resources and in navigating the filing of pertinent documents with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service. CSS is the local link to services for the adopting families.
In this program CSS does not take custody of the children being adopted nor do they act as the primary child placement agency. Interested families must choose an international adoption agency who will be the primary child placement agency handling the adoption. We have interagency agreements with the following agencies:
- Adoption Advocates International
- All God’s Children International
- America World Adoption
- Associated Services for International Adoption
- Barker Foundation
- Children's Home Society
- Chinese Children Adoption International
- Dillon International, Inc.
- Families Thru International Adoption
- Holt International
- Living Hope Adoption Agency
- PLAN Loving Adoptions Now, Inc.
- Wide Horizons for Children
- World Partners Adoption
