Special Needs Adoptions

The Special Needs Adoption Program of Catholic Social Services (CSS) assists over 200 families each year in adopting children who are in Alaska’s foster care system. “Special needs” children are defined as children who were removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse, and are now eligible for adoption. This term does not refer specifically to children with developmental disabilities. This program serves children and adoptive families from communities all across Alaska. All adoption home studies for this program must be referred to CSS by the Office of Children’s Services.
